A comprehensive view of local access geography
LATAInfo™ is a map of local access transport area (LATA) boundaries across the United States. Telephone calls between two parties in different LATAs must, by law, be “transported” by a long-distance carrier. In general, each LATA contains a single major metropolitan or market area, and may not necessarily match up with existing state, province or even area code borders.
In addition to the geographic boundaries of the LATAs, the database contains information about area codes and the major local operating companies in each LATA. The LATAInfo database contents include LATA number, LATA name, area codes in the LATA and major local operating companies serving the LATA.
With LATAInfo, communication providers can use data for a more clear understanding of LATA boundaries to:
- Support rate/service planning and optimization
- Identify carriers operating within each LATA
