We've all been there; making a call to your telecommunications provider's call center to either inquire about a bill or the latest device. It's not uncommon for both the caller and CSR to dread this interaction, but it no longer needs to be that way. A happy customer starts with a positive and motivated CSR that knows excatly how to handle each call.

Remember Ken Jennings, the guy who piled up over $3 million in winnings on Jeopardy? Well, it turns out that beyond his overall interest in American trivia history and culture, he’s always had a secret passion for maps. He talks about it in this interview , explaining why he wrote Maphead, whichdetails his lifelong love affair with geography and explores why maps have always been so fascinating to him and to fellow enthusiasts.

I was at a party over the holidays, on Christmas Eve actually, and the kids had my neighbor’s laptop open all night, busily tracking Santa Claus’ progress delivering toys all over the world. And my neighbors were pretty excited about it, pretty geeked up about how cool it was that NORAD would do something like that for kids. Meanwhile, I was thinking that what these kids were really doing was using all the available data they had to put some transparency on their supply chain and how, in fact, their supplier (Santa) was using geospatial data to achieve just in time delivery.

The first weeks of January are always prime time for local health clubs, and the press is full of information on weight-loss schemes. A common theme for the gyms: exercise wisely, don’t overdo, be systematic. Likewise, the headlines for the diet articles shout out the need for super foods—it’s not so much how much you eat, but what you eat (and the willingness to stick with your plan) that can make the difference. It’s not a perfect analogy, but there’s an awful lot that carries over from the playbook for diet and exercise to managing churn.
